French President Emmanuel Macron will inaugurate the meeting of the International Support Group for Lebanon at the French Foreign Ministry, in the presence of Prime Minister Saad Hariri and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Paris.
Other members of the International Support Group for Lebanon are representatives from Russia, China, Britain, Germany Italy and Egypt, according to AFP.
“It is about sending a clear message to all those who exert influence in Lebanon to avoid dragging this country into regional chaos,” the French Foreign Ministry said.
“France will remain vigilant over respecting the commitments made by the Lebanese parties,” the French presidency said, referring to the Lebanese government’s reaffirmation of the policy of dissociating Lebanon from regional crises.
“The aim of the meeting is to support the political process at this sensitive period. This will be a message for the Lebanese parties and the region’s countries at the same time,” the statement said.
“The message is to strengthen Lebanese institutions.”
Another meeting will be held in Rome in 2018 to gather aid for the Lebanese Army for rehabilitation and equipment.
