President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, told Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Aboul Gheit that Lebanon was not responsible for the Arab or regional conflicts currently being witnessed in Arab countries.
“Lebanon has not assaulted any country, thus it is not permissible to have it pay its security and political stability as a dear price for the ongoing conflicts,” Aoun told Aboul Gheit, reiterating Lebanon’s continuous calls for Arab solidarity, renunciation of differences, and unity of ranks.
“Lebanon cannot accept insinuations accusing the Lebanese government of partnering in terrorist acts. The position expressed by Lebanon’s delegate to the Arab League yesterday expresses a consensual national will,” he added.
“Lebanon has confronted Israeli aggressions from 1978 until 2006 and has been able to liberate its territories,” the President added, stressing the fact that Israeli threats remain persistent to date and that the Lebanese enjoy the full right to resist it and thwart its plans by all means possible.
