US Ambassador to Lebanon, Michel Issa, announced that the recent negotiations held through the mechanism were aimed at breaking the ice between the Lebanese and Israeli sides, stating that there is a difference between conducting negotiations and the Israeli side’s commitment to a ceasefire.
He added, “We didn’t expect peace from the first meeting. The parties must meet and then present their proposals.”
Following his meeting with Foreign Minister Youssef Raji, the US Ambassador announced that there were “contacts regarding the reactivation of Army Commander Rudolph Haikal’s visit to Washington.”
While expressing his belief that “the visit will take place,” he said, “Things are becoming clearer regarding the Army Commander’s visit to Washington, but nothing is confirmed yet.”
