Lebanon’s Grand Jaafari Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Qabalan addressed, during his Friday sermon, a message to President Joseph Aoun in which he affirmed the priority of sustaining the national unity, away from the unconstitutional resolutions.
Eyes are on Baabda Presidential Palace which hosts on Friday a government session that is set to debate the Lebanese Army plan to disarm Hezbollah resistance group.
Sheikh Qabalan stressed that President Aoun must assume the responsibility of preventing any constitutional violation, affirming that the fateful decisions must be approved by the representatives of the establishing sects in the country.
Mufti Qabalan maintained that stabbing the cohesion between the Army and the Resistance is a treachery, adding that the sacrifice of the Resistance for the sake of the nation is unmatched.
“It is the force that has restored the state, the country, and the institutions, liberated Lebanon and continued to protect it at the greatest price for decades, in the presence of a blind, foolish government, almost complicit. There is no legitimacy above the legitimacy that restored the state, the country, and the institutions and is still protecting it with all its capabilities.”
The Lebanese Government approved earlier this month “objectives” of a US plan to disarm Hezbollah, yielding to US and Israeli pressures.
The cabinet session on August 7 followed another session on August 5, in which the Lebanese Government tasked the Lebanese Army with drafting a plan to confine all weapons to the State by the end of the year.
The decisions came as Israeli enemy continues to bomb Lebanon, mainly the country’s south, almost daily and maintains occupation over five posts along the southern border, in violation of a ceasefire deal reached following a brutal 66-day Israeli war between September and November 2024.
