In a statement, Al-Khalil pointed out that the US administration has managed to push the Lebanese authorities into the track of normalization and surrender, culminating in the Abraham Accords.
“Unfortunately, Washington has managed, through the US and regional guardianship authorities operating openly and secretly in Lebanon, to drag the Lebanese government into taking the sinful decisions as a first step in the long context of surrender and submission.”
Al-Khalil said, “The brazen and insulting American dictates, embodied in the statements made by members of the ominous American delegation in the media and before Lebanese officials, aimed at disarming Hezbollah as a prelude to any alleged security and stability, are nothing but a clear and blatant renunciation of the agreement sponsored by America and France in October 2024, the first and explicit provisions of which stipulate a cessation of hostilities and an end to all Israeli attacks by land, sea and air, without any ambiguity.”
“The American administration, which sent its envoys to Beirut, starting with Ortagus, then Tom Barak with his first, second and third papers, and then followed him with an expanded delegation that included members of Congress and the administration, wanted to wash its hands completely of all its previous pledges, explicit guarantees and commitments to pressure ‘Israel’ to stop its daily attacks and withdraw from the occupied areas of Lebanon. It also contradicted all the false promises that the American envoys had recently made to the three presidents.”
According to the statement, the Americans’ push to involve the Lebanese National Army in confronting its people and to create a rift between it and the resistance is nothing but a despicable attempt to destroy two fundamental pillars of this country: the army and the resistance.
While we condemn this despicable movement, we reiterate to the official Lebanese officials the need to beware of falling into such deadly traps, Al-Khalil added.
Al-Khalil maintained that the claim by some concerned parties in the country, especially those at the head of the executive authority, that what they are doing is an implementation of the Taif Agreement, is a grave error and a major suspicion that they have awakened to now in the presence of the American and regional political invasion.
“The Taif Agreement explicitly stipulated Lebanon’s right to take all necessary measures that would enable it to liberate and defend its land, not the least of which is the resistance of its honorable people. This was clearly stated in the ministerial statements of all successive Lebanese governments after Taif. Our greatest fear is dragging the country into a civil war, which the Taif Agreement came to quell after a long period of suffering for the Lebanese.”
Finally, Hezbollah Leader’s advisor voiced hope that the Lebanese officials, who are responsible for and keen on the independence and security of this country, headed by the President of the Republic, will work to put an end to this political subservience by the Lebanese government, keep the honorable national institution, the Lebanese Army, away from the internal strife that threatens security and stability, and work to reconsider, both in form and content, the way in which international and regional envoys deal with the tendencies that threaten the country’s security and civil peace and undermine its freedom and sovereignty.
