Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri expressed frustration with the results of the US delegation’s visit to Lebanon, telling Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the Americans “brought to us the opposite of what they promised”.
Speaker Berri noted that the Israeli side was expected to respond to the “step-for-step” policy advocated by US envoy Tom Barrack in his statements, adding, however, the delegation’s position was the opposite, emphasizing the need to strip Hezbollah’s weapons before discussing any counter-measures by ‘Israel’ related to withdrawing from Lebanese territory and halting attacks in Lebanon.
Speaker Berri explained that the American delegation “did not bring anything from ‘Israel’, and thus things have become complicated again.”
The House Speaker refused to discuss the next phase in light of this complexity, merely emphasizing that matters “are not easy”.
In response to a question about the government meeting scheduled for September 2, which will discuss the army’s plan to disarm Hezbollah weapons, he said, “Anything that leads to discord in the country is reprehensible.”
Since the ceasefire took effect on November 27, 2025, the Israeli enemy violated the Lebanese sovereignty around 4500 times which left 253 martyrs and almost 500 injuries.
