The Zionist entity witnesses widespread anger over the Israeli government’s handling of the war in Gaza, with thousands going on a general strike on Monday as a court has ordered end to the strike.
Israeli Labor Court has ruled that a general strike that shut down much of the Zionist entity’s economy on Monday must end at 2:30 p.m. (Palestine time), according to court documents seen by the Reuters news agency.
The strike began this morning and was halted by court order at 2:30 pm. Hundreds of protesters blocked major roads across Tel Aviv including Ayalon Highway and Begin Street, Israeli media reported.
Arnon Bar-David, chairman of Histadrut Labor Federation which ordered the general strike, said he respects the decision by the Labor Court.
“It is important to emphasize that the solidarity strike was a significant measure and I stand behind it. Despite the attempts to paint solidarity as political, hundreds of thousands of citizens voted with their feet,” he said in a statement, as reported by The Times of Israel.
Meanwhile, the “Hostages and Missing Families Forum” encouraged the Israeli public to continue the demonstrations despite the ruling.
“This is not about a strike, this is about rescuing the 101 hostages that were abandoned by [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu with the cabinet decision last Thursday,” the forum says, referring to the vote by ministers backing the Israeli military continued presence on the Philadelphi Corridor.
“Disgraceful Show of Support to Hamas”
Commenting on the strike, Netanyahu branded it as a disgraceful show of support for Hamas and its leader Yahya Sinwar, according to leaked quotes from the weekly cabinet meeting.
The strike is “a disgrace. This is telling Sinwar: You killed six; here we are, supporting you,” Netanyahu tells ministers, in reference to the six hostages murdered by their Hamas captors, the Ynet news site reported.
Netanyahu is also quoted telling ministers, “We must remain on the Philadelphi Corridor; it’s essential to Israeli security.”
Hundreds of thousands of Israelis took to streets on Sunday after the discovery of the bodies of six Israeli captives who were held in Gaza Strip at the weekend.
