A member of the United States military set himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC, in an apparent protest against the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Aaron Bushnell, 25, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, according to the US capital’s fire department.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene just before 1pm (18:00 GMT) after receiving a call about a person on fire outside the embassy. They found that US Secret Service officers had already extinguished the flames.
The US Air Force confirmed that Bushnell is an active duty airman.
Witnesses say he poured accelerant on himself before igniting the flames, all while expressing his opposition to Israel’s occupation military actions in Gaza. The video was removed from the platform but is now being reviewed by law enforcement officials.
‘Free Palestine!’
Reports indicate that Bushnell livestreamed the act on Twitch, wearing fatigues and declaring his refusal to be complicit in genocide before setting himself ablaze and shouting “Free Palestine!” until he fell to the ground.
Authorities also claimed a suspicious vehicle at the scene and requested explosive ordnance disposal, but no hazardous material was found.
The ongoing Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip has reached its 143rd day, with continued devastation, loss of life, and injuries plaguing the Palestinian people.
Despite the resistance efforts of the Palestinian people, the enemy’s onslaught persists, resulting in more casualties.
