Iranian Internal Security Spokesman, Brigadier General Mahdi Hajian, told Iranian TV that 11 rioters who were trying to close the Grand Bazaar of Tehran under threat were arrested.
“Some of the detainees admitted in the preliminary investigations that they had received money from foreign intelligence services to create confusion inside Iran,” General Hajian said.
“The enemy aimed to close Iran’s markets today and called for a general strike, but the general public and merchants did not respond to these calls,” the Iranian internal security spokesman added.
The Iranian judicial authorities have charged about 800 people for their involvement in the recent riots that took place in the provinces of Hormozgan, Isfahan, and Markazi, according to the judiciary’s Mizan Online website and local agencies.
Iranian Security Minister Esmail Khatib said earlier it became clear in the recent events that the Zionist entity was responsible for implementation, the UK media was responsible for sponsoring, and Saudi Arabia was responsible for financial support.
Iran has recently witnessed demonstrations and riots that left dead and injured among the security forces and civilians. In parallel, Iranians went out on mass demonstrations all over the country in support of the Islamic Republic and in protest of the riots that took place in several Iranian cities.
