Lebanon recorded on Sunday 3,654 new coronavirus cases and 40 further deaths from coronavirus complications as authorities imposed a total shutdown to curb the huge surge after New Year Eve.
The Lebanese ministry of public health issued its daily report in which it said that only 14 of the cases were among the arrivals, raising total to 252,812.
The report added that 18628 PCR tests were conducted during the past 24 hours, adding that the number of cases of recovery from the coronavirus rose to 153038.
According to the report, 40 new coronavirus-related death cases were registered, which raised toll to 1865.
Lebanon has seen a massive climb in infections since Christmas and New Year holidays.
The surge has overwhelmed hospitals and the health care system as infections increased and ICU beds filled up.
Authorities imposed the strictest lockdown yet starting last Thursday, hoping that restrictions in place until February 1 could help contain the rise.
