Turkish Foreign Ministry told Israel’s consul general in Istanbul to return to occupied Palestine “for some time”, state-run Anadolu news agency said on Wednesday, after Israeli occupation forces killed more than 60 Palestinians during protests on the Gaza border.
Ministry officials were not available to comment, Reuters said. On Tuesday, the ministry made a similar call to Israel’s ambassador to Ankara. Turkey has been a vocal critic of the Israeli violence in Gaza and the opening of the US Embassy in occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem).
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will on Friday host an emergency summit meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul which he has said will send a “strong message to the world” on the issue.
