The recent weeks have witnessed an American escalation against Iran. Many US officials have spoken tough and released inflammatory statements threatening the Islamic Republic. Atop of those officials is US president Donald Trump and his senior aides at the American administration. A question is posed about the reason behind this, and what are the anticipated outcome of this high rhetoric?
Worth mentioning that Trump has always been a harsh advocate when it comes to Iran. Prior to his election he attacked Obama’s deal about Tehran’s nuclear capabilities, describing it the worst nuclear deal and promising to tear it down when entering the White House. But, this has never taken place and is not likely.
What are Washington’s’ takes against Iran, and would that lead to a further deterioration leading to a confrontation between the two?
Three issues at stake here according to Washington are : (1)Tehran’s increasing regional influence, (2) the ballistic missiles development program, (3) the human rights file. Each of the three issues is causing the Americans a lot of headache ..
The nuclear program deal is not a thing that Washington can do much about it. It has already been ratified with the international community, basically the European Union, China and Russia under the umbrella of the security Council. Any attempt to tap with this would put Washington on a colliding track with all the those parties.
As for Tehran’s regional influence, a thing that the US is not at all at ease with, Iran is accumulating power and maximizing influence within the parameters of the international law, and not breaching any agreement, it is only for Washington friends and allies in the region especially “Israel” and Saudi Arabia that Keep stirring against Tehran.
As for the Iranian ballistic missiles program, Tehran has made it very clear that this is an independent file that has to do with developing the countries defensive capabilities and it is a sovereignty issue that Iran would never accept any compromise about it.
Now, when it comes to the human rights issue, Washington accuses Tehran of misconduct according to its own policies and never in compliance with Iranian policies. Washington has no say in this and Iran sticks to this position, especially that a country like the US has never been at anytime in a position to pose criticism to any country in this regard. A country that is responsible for genocide by dropping two nuclear bombs against Japan and who established illegal detention centers like Guantanamo is not in a position to give moral lessons to others.
But aside from this, US officials have recently stated that Tehran has met all its obligations when it comes to the nuclear program deal . And US president has extended the sanctions relief under the nuclear deal, which means all the American heightened rhetoric are nothing but a lip service to please Riyadh and Tel Aviv.
Of course, Washington fixed policy is to continue increasing pressure against Tehran to push it to negotiate on other files in the region which Iran has always refused to do. But meanwhile, no estimations that words would turn to actions as the friction in the region is at its zenith, and it does not seem that it is the interest of any party to add fuel to the already sparkling fire.
