Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, said that Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati informed him during his visit last week to Beirut, of his inability to provide his own essential medicines, due to their disappearance from the market
Ghebreyesus said that Lebanon is facing a severe political and economic crisis that has caused doctors to leave, as 200,000 doctors and 1,500 nurses have emigrated, which makes the health system in a very difficult situation, especially in light of the “Covid-19” pandemic.
He pointed out that the economic crisis caused a severe and clear shortage of medicines and medical supplies, which prompted the Lebanese Prime Minister to complain that he personally was unable to provide some essential medicines.
It is worth noting that Lebanon has been recently recording more than 600 coronavirus cases with an average of seven related deaths.
