President Michel Aoun chaired on Sunday an urgent meeting for the Supreme Defense Council which convened to address the tragedy caused by an explosion of an oil tanker in Akkar city.
Aoun offered condolences to the families of the victims, estimated to be at least 28, urging the medics to mobile efforts in face of the calamity.
The President also warned against politicizing the blast for the sake of destabilizing the regime, calling on all the Lebanese to commit to solidarity.
President Aoun had earlier expressed his “extreme pain” over the victims of the fuel explosion in the Akkar town of al-Tlail, asking the judiciary to “unveil the circumstances.”
Wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded, Aoun said the “tragedy” has “bloodied the hearts of all Lebanese.”
For his part, the premier-designate Hassan Diab stressed that the blast which took place in Akkar hit all the Lebanese, indicating that corruption is behind that explosion.
