Senior U.S. officials have held a first direct meeting with officials from Yemen’s Ansarullah movement, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
According to media reports, the US officials urged the Ansarullah representatives to halt the campaign aimed at liberating Marib city from the Saudi-led forces and engage in direct talks with KSA.
A statement issued by the Ansarullah movement stressed that the offensive to regain Marib will continue, indicating that the city turned to be one of the fronts chosen by the aggression forces to attack other cities and provinces.
Ansarullah pointed out that the US has imposed new sanctions in order to continue its aggression on Yemen, highlighting the contradiction between Washington’s punitive policy and statements about peace.
Yemen has been since March 25, 2015 under aggression by the Saudi-led coalition in a bid to restore power to fugitive president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who is Riyadh’s ally.
Tens of thousands of Yemenis have been killed or injured by Saudi-led airstrikes.
The Arab impoverished country has been also under harsh blockade b the coalition which includes in addition to the Kingdom, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Morocco and Sudan.
