The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received on Thursday Faleh al-Fayad, the National Security Advisor and Envoy of Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi.
Al-Fayad convoyed an oral message from al-Abadi to President al-Assad, in which he asserted the importance of continuing to strengthen the existing cooperation between Syria and Iraq in their war against the Takfiri terrorist organizations, especially with regard to coordination of efforts in combating ISIL terrorist organization on the shared border line between the two countries.
During the meeting, the practical and field steps for military coordination on the shared border between the two armies were discussed in light of the victories achieved by the Iraqi army in Mosul, as well as the prospects of forthcoming direct cooperation between the Syrian and Iraqi armies in combating terrorism jointly.
In this regard, President al-Assad affirmed that any achievement accomplished by the Syrian and Iraqi armies in combating terrorism constitutes an important step towards restoring security and stability to both countries, because the enemy is common and their battle is one against the schemes that are aimed at weakening and dividing the countries of the region through the tools represented by the terrorist organizations.
For his part, al-Fayad stressed the importance of eliminating terrorism jointly and stopping its crimes against the people of Syria and Iraq and the peoples of the region, which he said requires sincere efforts of all countries inside and outside the region because the threat of terrorism is a real threat to the security of the whole world.
