The Lebanese General Security Directorate said it arrested a Syrian national for belonging to ISIL militant group, pointing that he was involved in planning to carry out terrorist attacks in Lebanon.
“Security forces managed to arrest a Syrian national who confessed of pledging allegiance to ISIL terrorist group through its operator Abdullah Al-Tunisi and incited others to join its ranks,” The General Security announced in a statement it released on Thursday via Twitter. After raiding the terrorist’s house, the statement read, raw explosive materials were seized which he had brought to implement his plans.
The statement pointed out that he planned to carry out terrorist attacks against the sites of an active Lebanese political party and kill its members.
“The terrorist was also accused of carrying out a drone attack targeting a Western embassy in Beirut,” the General Security Directorate said, adding that after the investigations, he was handed to the competent judiciary authorities.
“Efforts are underway to arrest the other culprits,” the statement concluded.
