Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Wednesday that Moscow’s talks with Washington to reach a stable peace process in Syria was a serious attempt to find a peaceful solution.
“It was not a game or a contest of power and wisdom, but a serious attempt to reach a peaceful solution for the Syrian crisis,” she told Russia Today.
“We didn’t plan to compete with the United States, instead we were calling for cooperation. We spent more than six months negotiating our US partners in order to set up undisputable terms of the deal,” Zakharova added.
The Russian diplomat, moreover, underscored that the US does not have a unified position regarding the Syrian conflict, and this constituted the basic obstacle of negotiations between Moscow and Washington.
