Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi announced that President Hassan Rouhani had refused request by Washington for a meeting with US President Donald Trump during his visit to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly session.
In remarks released late on Sunday, Qassemi said on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, the American side showed willingness to hold a meeting between Rouhani and Trump.
However, the request for such a meeting was rejected by the Iranian president, the spokesman added.
“The American side expressed such willingness but it was not accepted by President Rouhani,” Qassemi said.
Rouhani delivered a speech and participated in discussions at the General Assembly session in New York, which ran from September 19 to 25.
