Russia faces large-scale tasks in the Arctic and will need to strengthen its transportation and logistics infrastructure, protect the fragile ecosystem, and ensure comfortable living conditions, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting on the development of the Arctic region.
“Here in the Arctic, in this strategic and significant region, we are facing large-scale and complex tasks. We have to strengthen transportation, logistics infrastructure, expand economic and business opportunities with mandatory protection of sensitive Arctic ecosystems,” the president said.
He added that it is necessary to consistently improve the urban environment, enhance the settlements of the Far North, and generally raise the quality of life, “so that they could have interesting, good, well-paid jobs, as well as access to modern education and healthcare services, making the Arctic truly comfortable and attractive to live in.”
