Lebanon President, General Michel Aoun, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II agreed, on Tuesday, to “activate bilateral Lebanese-Jordanian relations and strengthen them in all fields,” in addition to “coordinating positions ahead of the expected Arab Summit in Jordan upcoming March, in order to have a unified stance that confirms Arab solidarity in confronting current challenges, at the forefront of which is resistance to terrorism.”
President Aoun and King Abdullah also decided to call on the Lebanese-Jordanian Supreme Committee to convene after the Summit, under the chairmanship of both governments, to implement what was agreed upon in terms of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the economic, security, military, tourism and agricultural fields, and the signing of new agreements that sponsor this cooperation.
Furthermore, the Jordanian Monarch and Lebanese President agreed to “coordinate between the security forces of both countries to confront impending security deadlines and challenges and adopt proactive measures to prevent terrorists from sneaking into both countries.”
They also highlighted “the importance of reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis,” while reviewing the stages already crossed in an attempt to reach said solution and the obstacles facing it.
Aoun and Abdullah II also hoped that “the suffering of the displaced Syrians would come to an end through finding near solutions to their situation.”
Both the Lebanese President and Jordanian King shared common perspective over the fact that Lebanon, in wake of its recovery, will remain faithful to all components of its message of freedom and co-existence, and in being a land of dialogue and interaction of cultures.
President Aoun, in turn, considered that the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is “an active partner in carrying this message.”
It is to note that the bilateral talks between President Aoun and King Abdullah II began immediately upon the arrival of the royal procession to Basman Palace, where they held a half-hour retreat, following which they were joined in extended talks by members of both the Lebanese and Jordanian delegations.
