Syrian President Bahsar al-Assad received on Thursday Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.
Assad and Abdollahian welcomed the talks which took place in the Kazakh capital earlier this week, Mehr news agency reported.
The Syria talks were held in Astana on January 23-24. As a result of the talks held in the capital of Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran and Turkey decided to establish a trilateral mechanism to monitor the ceasefire in Syria.
“The success of the agreement represents first step towards securing Syria through fighting terrorism and creating appropriate conditions that lead to launch a national dialogue in which the Syrian themselves will decide the future of their country,” the agency reported.
