Syria’s permanent representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari dismissed on Tuesday accusations of crimes committed by the Syrian government in Aleppo, noting that such claims aim at diverting attention from achievements secured by the Syrian army.
The Syrian government is innocent of the US and western accusations of perpetrating crimes, Jaafari said in a speech at UN Security Council session on the situation in Aleppo.
A number of Security Council member states have got used to call for urgent sessions in light of misleading information and false testimonies by the terrorist organizations whenever the Syrian army achieves progress against the terrorists, SANA news agency reported.
He categorically denied reports of US, UK and French envoys that the Syrian government has targeted the Syrian citizens in Aleppo.
“What is the Syrian government carrying out in Aleppo and the rest of Syrian cities is a kind of a practice for its constitutional and legal duty, imposed on any government, in protecting its citizens from terrorism,” Jaafari affirmed.
He added that what has been done by the Syrian government, since the start of operations in Aleppo, like opening safe corridors, even for gunmen, securing shelters, issuing amnesty decisions and offering all forms of food and medical aid, aimed at protecting the civilians and rescuing their lives.
Jaafari meanwhile, wondered how can the UN, that is supposed to be a credible source of information, issue statements and give judgments based on suspicious sources unless if they were issued in the service of agendas of some countries to provoke against the Syrian government.
The Syrian envoy went on to say that the continued provocation against the Syrian government, based on fabricated reports by intelligence of member states is “the top of hypocrisy,” adding that these states have deliberately turned a blind eye to the practices of terrorists in Aleppo.
“Aleppo has returned to the lap of homeland… it was liberated and it didn’t collapse,” Jaafari said.
