UN Syria mediator Staffan de Mistura said Thursday he planned to meet “people around the team” of US President-elect Donald Trump to discuss the nearly six-year conflict in the country.
“The plan is to meet some people around the team of President [elect] Trump,” de Mistura told reporters, adding that meetings would take place in New York and Washington.
De Mistura briefed the UN Security Council behind closed doors Thursday and said he would remain in the US until Tuesday.
He declined to elaborate on who he would meet with from Trump’s team and when. De Mistura said that he has ideas on “how President [elect] Trump’s team would be able to look at the fight on terrorism in very effective ways.”
