During the meeting with Hamdollah Moheb, National Security Advisor to the President of Afghanistan, Ali Shamkhani stated that Afghanistan has a special place in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran due to the many commonalities and ties between the two nations.
Expressing satisfaction with the Khaf-Herat railway opening, he described the creation of the necessary infrastructure for the development of relations in all fields as vital and inevitable.
Referring to the threats and common interests of the two countries on various issues, especially the threat of the spread of terrorism, Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council stressed strong support for the legitimate government of Afghanistan and the need to increase cooperation between Tehran and Kabul in various political, economic and security dimensions.
Shamkhani said the United States has stepped up its insecurity in the West Asian region over the past year, culminating in the cowardly assassination of senior counterterrorism commanders General Qasem Suleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
He stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to take severe revenge on the perpetrators of this historic crime, prevent the continuation of terrorist, seizure, and anti-security acts of the United States and its agents and force them to leave the region.
He warned of the intensification and development of ISIS activities in Afghanistan and the dangers created for the people of this country and other countries in the region.
Shamkhani stressed the need for vigilance, cooperation, and joint efforts of all countries to eradicate this cancerous tumor’s evil.
Following the meeting, Hamdollah Moheb, National Security Advisor to the President of Afghanistan, also announced Afghanistan’s readiness to expand cooperation with Iran and mentioned Iran as his second home.
Referring to the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the hospitality of the Iranian people to the people of Afghanistan over the past 40 years, he said: “The government and people of Afghanistan have always appreciated the love, help, and support of Iran and Iranians.”
Hamdullah Moheb, presenting a report on the peace talks in Afghanistan, added: “Unfortunately, despite the agreements signed between the United States and Taliban, the group’s attacks and destructive actions have not only not decreased, but have also increased.”
He praised the effective and constructive role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan, noting that the Taliban had abused the agreement with the United States to impose its terms and force the Afghan government to surrender. Still, we insisted on our principled and legal positions against their extravagance.
During his one-day visit to Tehran, Hamdollah Moheb will also meet with some other high-ranking political and security officials of Iran’s Islamic Republic.
