House Speaker, Nabih Berri, said that Lebanon was dying, in remarks made after approving the written resignations during a Parliament session at UNESCO Palace Thursday.
“The nation is dying before our eyes; we have nothing left but a surgery,” he indicated.
“This is feasible through the Taif provisions,” he added, stressing that the goal is to reflect the aspirations of the Lebanese people.
The speaker went on to highlight the necessity to establish a civil state, as well as Senate to preserve the existence and rights of the various sects.
He also stressed on the necessity to reach an election law free of sectarian hindrances, and called for the speedy formation of a government whose policy statement shall include reforms and the fight of corruption.”
In his intervention during the session, Berri said that “the army is a symbol of unity in Lebanon and we must trust it.”
The parliament approved in its session the resignations of seven members, the state of emergency in Beirut and other draft laws.
