Yemeni Air Defenses of the Army and Popular Committees shot down, on Sunday, a hostile spy drone run by the US-Saudi aggression across from Jizan.
“With the help of God, the air defenses were able to shoot down a US spy drone, RQ-20, over Haradh district off Jizan with an undisclosed missile,” the spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Sarea said in a brief statement.
Sarea indicated that the downing process was documented by the Military Media Documentation Unit.
The AeroVironment RQ-20 Puma is a small, battery powered, American hand-launched unmanned aircraft system produced by AeroVironment based in California. Primary mission is surveillance and intelligence gathering using an electro-optical and infrared camera.
Previously selected for the United States Special Operations Command in 2008, in March 2012 the United States Army ordered the Puma All Environment (AE) and designated it the RQ-20A.
In April, the United States Marine Corps and United States Air Force placed a similar order for the RQ-20A. Each military RQ-20A system has three air vehicles and two ground stations.
The Puma AE can operate under extreme weather conditions including temperatures ranging from −20 to 120 °F (−29 to 49 °C), wind speeds up to 25 knots (29 mph; 46 km/h), and an inch of rain per hour.
