Syria on Thursday branded US presence on its territory as an act of aggression, Washington signaled that its forces would stay in parts of Syria indefinitely.
Syrian foreign ministry lashed out at US, saying Washington’s military presence in Syria was illegitimate and represented a blatant breach of the international law and an aggression on Syria’s national sovereignty.
“The internal affairs in any country in the world is an exclusive right of the people of this country, thus nobody has the right to only give his opinion in that because this violates the international law and contradicts the most important theories of the constitutional law,” SANA news agency quoted a source at the ministry as saying.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Wednesday signaled an open-ended military presence as part of a broader alleged strategy to prevent ISIL’s resurgence, “pave the way diplomatically for the eventual departure of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and curtail Iran’s influence.”
