President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, welcomed on Friday at the Baabda palace a delegation of the Higher Judiciary Council headed by Judge Jean Fahed.
President Aoun stressed that “discord at the level of political options continue to impede the formation of the new government”, calling on all parties concerned to shoulder national responsibility and facilitate the process of the government formation.
“We have maintained the security and stability of Lebanon in times of heated war… Accordingly, it is not permissible to waste what has been achieved through cold internal wars,” Aoun corroborated.
The head of state also noted that the rate of crimes significantly decreased during the year 2018 compared to previous years, which confirms the success of the army and security forces in consecrating security in the country.
“To fulfill this, there must be cooperation between the judiciary and the security services,” the president said, calling for speeding up the issuance of verdicts.
Aoun said the Penal Code needs fundamental amendments, which will be discussed at the conference to be called forth by the President after the formation of the new government.
