US military officials reported that the withdrawal from Syria, as President Donald Trump had announced, could take several months, according to a report by ABC News.
Although US officials had previously announced that the withdrawal could occur within one month, the pace of withdrawal seems to be much slower than expected.
ABC said US officials, stressed that no final decisions have been made about the planned pace of the withdrawal of US troops from Syria.
Over the weekend, Defense Secretary James Mattis signed an order that tasked U.S. Central Command with developing a withdrawal plan, but there was no timetable associated with the order.
Two US officials, the current plan being presented to the military’s chain of command calls for a withdrawal process that could take several months.
According to the officials, the US and coalition aircraft will continue to conduct airstrikes and provide air support for American troops as they carry out the withdrawal.
