Head of Yemen’s Supreme Revolutionary Committee, Mohammad Ali Al-Houthi, said there has been an initiative to halt naval military operations in Red Sea for a period of time.
Al-Houthi said the ceasefire would take effect at Tuesday midnight and would end at Wednesday midnight, noting that it would be extended if the Saudi-led coalition was committed to it.
Al-Houthi said also that the Yemeni defense ministry welcomed the move, adding that the truce would include all naval fronts in the Red Sea.
“If they really want peace for Yemeni people who have been suffering, then they have to comply with the ceasefire,” Al-Houthi said.
Yemen has been since March 2015 under brutal aggression by Saudi-led Coalition, in a bid to restore control to fugitive president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who is Riyadh’s ally.
Tens of thousands of people have been killed and injured in the strikes launched by the coalition, with the vast majority of them are civilians.
The coalition, which includes in addition to Saudi Arabia and UAE: Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Sudan and Kuwait, has been also imposing a harsh blockade against Yemenis.
