Baghdad called on the United Nations Security Council to hold an urgent session on the Turkish violations of the Iraqi sovereignty.
Iraq’s permanent envoy to UN, Mohammad Ali al-Hakim handed the President of the UNSC, Vitaly Churkin an official request to hold an urgent session over the issue, Iraqi foreign ministry spokesman, Ahmad Jamal told reporters on Thursday.
The topic of the session will be Ankara interference and incursions in Iraq, as well as a recent decision by the Turkish parliament which extended by one year a government mandate allowing its troops to deploy on both Iraqi and Syrian territory, Jamal added.
The Iraqi request urged the UNSC to hold its responsibilities regarding Iraq, as it called on the council to put an end to the Turkish violations and to support Baghdad in its war against terrorism.
