Syrian Army regained control of two towns in Daraa countryside as part of an operation to regain the militant-held city, SANA news agency reported on Tuesday.
The agency quoted a Syrian military source as saying that “Syrian Army units, in cooperation with the allied forces took control of Busr Al-Harir and Malihat Al-Atash towns in Daraa eastern countryside.”
The agency said the liberation of the two towns came following the elimination of the last gatherings of terrorist groups in the area.
SANA also reported that the engineering units were carrying out mine-clearing operations in both towns.
State TV said the offensive on the flashpoint southern city of Daraa aims to cut supply lines between eastern Daraa and terrorist-held parts of the provincial capital, which carries the same name.
The TV says the operations began on Tuesday afternoon near the province’s main grain silos that have been controlled by militants for years.
“Syria’s army is carrying out targeted air strikes against terrorist positions and fortifications in Daraa,” state television reported.
