Saudi government warned of ‘detrimental consequences’ of a US law that would allow families of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks to sue the kingdom for damages.
Following a government session, Minister of Culture and Information Adel bin Zaid Al-Turaifi said that adopting the “Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act” (known as JASTA) is a matter of great concern by the international community.
“He noted that international relations between world countries have been for hundreds of years based on equality and political immunity,” Turaifi said, noting that JASTA will weaken this immunity in a way that will harm several countries, including the United States.
Meanwhile, the Saudi minister hoped that the US Congress would take appropriate measures in order to avoid the “detrimental consequences” of JASTA.
