Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei hailed Islamic unity, stressing that both Sunnis and Shias have always stood united to defend their own country against the enemies at the most difficult times.
Addressing a meeting with a group of families of martyrs from the Sunni-dominated province of Sistan and Baluchistan, Imam Khamenei praised the Sunni Muslims of the eastern Iranian province for their loyalty and sacrifices.
There are areas in Iran that Sunni and Shia live together as a symbol of unity between the two communities, his eminence said, stressing vigilance against enemies’ divisive measures.
“The martyrdom of a Sunni teenager during Iraqi-imposed war (1980-88) or a Sunni cleric in Iran indicates that Shia and Sunni are standing by each other even in the hardest eras,” Imam Khamenei said.
The Leader said Iran’s enemies have plotted against the unity of the Iranian nation since the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
“Everyone stood against the Islamic Republic, but they all failed.”
Meanwhile, Imam Khamenei pointed out that the steadfastness of the Islamic Republic in face of foreign conspiracies relies on its people’s faith and sacrifices.
