Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif hit back at US claims over the Islamic Republic’s missile support for Yemen.
In a tweet on Friday, the top Iranian diplomat stressed that the Islamic Republic has been calling for ceasefire in Yemen from the first day of the war in Yemen, lashing out at the United States’ support to Saudi Arabia in its aggression on the Arab impoverished country.
“While #Iran has been calling for ceasefire, aid and dialogue in #Yemen from day 1, US has sold weapons enabling its allies to kill civilians and impose famine. No amount of alternative facts or alternative evidence covers up US complicity in war crimes,” Zarif wrote on his Twitter account.
In an earlier tweet late Thursday, Zarif rejected US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley’s remarks over the Islamic Republic’s missile support for Yemen, comparing them to US claims in 2003 that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
“When I was based at the UN, I saw this show and what it begat…,” Zarif said on his Twitter account on Thursday night.
The Iranian top diplomat likened Halley’s presentation Thursday to former US Secretary of State Colin Powell’s claim in 2003 that Iraq possessed WMD.
Powell’s 2003 speech to the UN laid out the Bush administration’s case for a war in Iraq. Powell in 2016 called the speech “a great intelligence failure”.
