Speaker Nabih Berri Saturday expressed his hope that Lebanon would defeat ISIL on the same day the country defeated ‘Israel’ during the July 2006 war (August 14).
Speaking during a meeting with Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Ali Larijani, in Tehran, Berri also expressed his support for Lebanon discussing the issue of refugee repatriation with the Syrian authorities.
“There is no doubt that the resistance’s victory in the outskirts of Arsal placed Lebanon in front of a choice to continue liberating the land,” Berri said, according to a statement from his press office.
“And in these days we are living the memory of the July victory and the end of the Israeli aggression on August 14. I say that hopefully this date will also be the date during which ISIL will be eliminated.”
Berri departed for Tehran Friday morning, after being invited to the swearing-in ceremony of recently re-elected Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
He led a Lebanese delegation to Iran.
