IOF Destroyed Thousands of Housing Units in Gaza
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) quoted the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in Gaza as saying that the violent shelling by the occupation forces on the Strip has caused the destruction of at least 2,540 housing units in the Strip or rendered them unfit for habitation. It added that 22,850 other housing units were damaged to varying degrees.
The United Nations announced that more than 338,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in the Gaza Strip, which is under heavy Israeli shelling. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a statement that the number of displaced people in the densely populated 2.3 million-person territory “has increased by an additional 75,000 people” to reach 338,934.
The office explained that about 220,000 people, or two-thirds of the displaced, have fled to schools run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Strip, while about 15,000 people have fled to schools run by the Palestinian Authority. The remaining displaced people, over 100,000 people, have found refuge with relatives and neighbors in a church and other facilities in the city of Gaza.
The UN agency also expressed concern about the extensive damage to civilian infrastructure in the Strip as a result of Israeli shelling.
The statement noted that sanitation facilities serving more than one million people have been targeted by air strikes, leading to the accumulation of solid waste in the streets, which poses health risks.
A source in the Palestinian resistance confirmed that it is preparing for a long-term battle with the occupation forces and has all the necessary capabilities for that, adding that “the resistance fighters are still in full combat readiness and are still carrying out offensive missions in the heart of the enemy’s settlements.”
For its part, the Palestinian resistance factions announced that their rocket units had bombarded Tel Aviv, Ashdod, Ashkelon, and the settlements adjacent to the Gaza Strip with rocket barrages in response to the occupation’s crimes against civilians in the Gaza Strip.
