In addition to the immense losses inflicted upon the Palestinian refugee camp itself, Ain Al-Hilweh clashes also leave casualties and damage in the Lebanese vicinity.
In this context, Al-Manar correspondent reported on Saturday that Ain Al-Hilweh clashes, which were renewed this morning, claimed one martyr on Ghaziyeh highway.
The reporter added that the stray fire had also injured three people, including an Egyptian worker, and imposed a traffic redirection in Sidon city.
Palestinian sources mentioned that, despite the overnight truce agreement concluded by the Lebanese army intelligence commander in the South General Suheil Harb, the calm remained cautious before clashes were renewed.
Army Command calls on all parties to cease fire in Ain al-Hilweh camp
The Lebanese Army Command’s Orientation Directorate issued today the following statement: “In wake of the renewed armed clashes inside the Ain El-Hilweh camp – Sidon, the Army Command indicates that it is working to take appropriate measures and conduct the necessary contacts to stop these clashes that endanger the lives of innocent citizens…”
The statement called “on all concerned parties in the camp to cease fire in order to preserve the interests of their children and their cause, and to protect the lives of residents in the surrounding areas.”
The Army Command also called “on all citizens to exercise caution in the areas surrounding the camp, not to approach the sites of clashes, and to adhere to the measures taken by the military units deployed in the vicinity in order to preserve their safety.”
Mikati discusses with Abbas Ain al-Hilweh camp developments
Prime Minister Najib Mikati contacted on Saturday Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, where they reviewed the developments taking place in Ain al-Hilweh camp.
During the call, PM Mikati stressed the priority of ceasing all military action and cooperating with the Lebanese security services to address the existing tensions.
The Prime Minister said: “What is happening does not serve the Palestinian cause at all and constitutes a grave insult to the Lebanese state in general, particularly to the city of Sidon which embraces the Palestinian brothers….What is required in return is that they deal with the Lebanese state in accordance with its laws and regulations, preserving the safety of its citizens.”
