In their endeavor to promote a culture of giving and sacrifice to help others in the community, St. George Hospital-Hadath, in cooperation with the Wid Charity Association and with the participation of several students from Al-Rasoul Aazam Al-Institute, organized a blood donation campaign on the 7th eve of Ashura days next to Hezbollah’s central condolence ceremony in the southern suburbs of Beirut (Dahiyhe).
Al-Manar English Website visited this campaign and inquired, “Why was this particular location chosen to organize this campaign, and what is the purpose behind it?”
What Does the 7th Eve of Muharram Symbolize?
According to the narrations of Ahl Al-Bayt, on the 7th of Muharram al-Haram, Abu Al-Fadl Al-Abbas Ibn Ali Ibn Abi Talib (AS) felt great agony when he saw his brother’s children and family crying out for thirst. Thus, the lion-hearted Abbas (AS) headed to bring water, accompanied by a swarm of heroic knights.
Karbala’s heroes were stopped on their route to the river by enemy soldiers who were attempting to prevent Al-Hussein’s camp from reaching the water. After heroic clashes, Abu Al-Fadl and his companions (AS) quenched the thirst of the household of Imam al-Hussein (AS) and his companions and saved them from thirst.
Since that day, the 7th night of Ashura has focused on the elite type of giving and sacrifice, as Abbas and others with him sacrificed their lives to quench the thirst of children and women from the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) household.
