Deputy House Speaker, Elias Bou Saab, stressed that the quintet meeting held earlier this month in Paris and attended by US, France, Egypt, Qatar and Saudi was not aimed at reaching an agreement pertaining the Lebanese presidential elections, citing the absence of an agenda and a concluding statement.
Bou Saab added that the meeting was held for the sake of merely exchanging views regarding the Lebanese presidency, noting that the discussions were fruitful.
Meanwhile, Bou Saab indicated that Head of Marada Movement Sleiman Franjiyeh is the closest candidate to win the presidential elections, considering that the nomination of MP Michel Moawwad was not serious.
The Lebanese Parliament has held eleven rounds of voting since October, with no candidate garnering enough support to succeed former president Michel Aoun whose term ended on October 31.
However, Bou Saab stressed that the real facts he has obtained so far show that Franjiyeh can surpass this deadlock.
Head of Marada Movement pointed out last week that he has not run for the presidential elections yet, but that his nomination is on the table.
“We have an economic, political and social vision that is built on realism and saying the truth no matter how painful it is,” Franjiyeh said.
