Outgoing Lebanese President Michel Aoun stressed on Friday that peace with Israeli enemy is out of question, slamming PM-designate Najib Mikati over delay in forming a new government.
In a farewell meeting with journalists, President Aoun said: “The idea with the Israeli enemy is out of question. There was no direct contact between Lebanon and the enemy and the (maritime) talks were indirect and brokered by a mediator.”
He stated, meanwhile, that the Israeli enemy can’t withdraw from the maritime deal, which was signed on Thursday, pointing to congratulations Lebanon has received after the deal.
On the other hand, President Aoun, who will leave Baabda Palace on Sunday, slammed PM-designate Najib Mikati, accusing him of not having the will to form a new government.
He added that “absolutely” no one from the political leaders has helped him to fight corruption.
“When I announced countering corruption in 2019 all parties applauded but no one supported me to do so,” Aoun told reporters.
In this context, he quoted Imam Ali, saying that telling the truth and doing what is right has left him with no friends.
