The Lebanese depositor, Bassem Al-Sheikh Hussein, managed on Thursday to liberate 35 out of 209 thousand dollars detained by the Fed3eral Bank, Hamra branch.
It started when the bank manager rejected to grant Hussein an amount of money to medicate his father at the hospital and disrespected him.
The armed depositor took around 10 employees and clients as hostages for around eight hours before an agreement to give him part of his deposit was concluded.
Bassem’s brother Atef told journalists: “My brother has $210,000 in the bank and wants to get just $5,000 to pay hospital bills.”
He said his brother had grabbed the weapon “from the bank and did not bring it with him.”
It is worth noting that the Lebanese banks have stopped releasing the depositors’ funds since late 2019, causing a major financial crisis in the country.
