The Tunisian Ministry of Interior thwarted a terrorist attack targeting a sensitive institution and police forces on Thursday evening, and the terrorist was arrested.
The ministry revealed, during a press conference, today, Friday, the existence of confirmed information and serious threats regarding a plan to target the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, and undermine Tunisian public security.
Tunisian Ministry of Interior spokeswoman Fadela Al-Khelaifi said in a press conference in the Tunisian capital that a terrorist attack was thwarted in Tunisia last night.
She added, “A lone wolves tried to attack a security point in front of a sensitive headquarters, and the operation was thwarted, the perpetrator was arrested, and the crime instrument was seized,” without providing further information in this context.
She said that there was serious information, and its sources intersected, and the degree of its adoption rose to the level of public opinion announcement.
She stated that the announcement of these threats came after their disclosure, noting that the threats had gone beyond the planning and reporting stage by the parties involved in them, and had reached the first operational stages.
She added that investigations are still continuing in this direction, given that it is necessary to collect as many details as possible about these threats, which she asserted are aimed at undermining Tunisian public security.
She stressed that work is underway to eliminate and dismantle this scheme.
