It is the ‘civilized’ West. It is the real face of the “white” community which claims supremacy and denies all the human rights of the world populations.
In light of the political and military culmination, the Western media coverage of the Russian special operation in Ukraine started to take sociopolitical dimensions. Racism is there!
The Independent published an article which describes the racial bias in western media’s coverage of the Ukrainian war as shameful.
“From France to the UK and the US, much of the media coverage of the war in Ukraine has been saturated with racial bias. It’s dangerous, if unsurprising,” the write introduced her article.
“Now, because of the Ukrainians’ whiteness and proximity to the west, it’s apparently difficult for some political commentators and roving reporters to grasp how this conflict could have come to pass. It’s as though bloodshed and invasion is only to be foisted upon countries inhabited by Black and brown people.”
Among the various racial cases detected in the Western media coverage was that of Daniel Hannan who wrote in The Telegraph, “They seem so like us. That is what makes it so shocking. War is no longer something visited upon impoverished and remote populations. It can happen to anyone.”
The article added that a senior foreign correspondent for CBS News, Charlie D’Agata, apologized on Sunday after claiming on air that the attack on Ukraine cannot be compared to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan because the Eastern European country is more “civilized”. “This isn’t a place, with all due respect, like Iraq or Afghanistan that has seen conflict raging for decades,” he said. “This is a relatively civilized, relatively European – I have to choose those words carefully, too – city where you wouldn’t expect that, or hope that it’s going to happen.”
Al Jazeera English presented Peter Robbie said, “What’s compelling is looking at them, the way they are dressed. These are prosperous, middle-class people. These are not obviously refugees trying to get away from the Middle East […] or North Africa. They look like any European family that you’d live next door to.”
Many other cases of racism appeared clearly in the Western media coverage of the Ukrainian events which exposes the real grudge living in the Western ‘civilization’.
On February 24, Russia started a special military operation in Ukraine aimed at protecting the Russian national security from the Ukrainian nuclear and strategic threats.
