The Lebanese prime minister, Najib Mikati, indirectly acknowledged the Us blockade on Lebanon and Syria, indicating that Caesar law is behind the delay of the gas and electric power import project.
According to a multilateral agreement concluded in 2021, Egypt and Jordan are expected to provide Lebanon with gas and electric power respectively via the Syrian territories. However, the US blockade imposed on Lebanon and Syria, via Caesar law, has prevented the implementation of this agreement.
In this regard, MP Mikati indicated that the US Caesar law, which forbids any direct ties with Syrian authorities, has prevented Lebanon from importing the energy sources from Jordan and Egypt.
It is worth noting that the US ambassador to Lebanon had conveyed to PM Mikati a communication that alleged Washington’s approval of the energy import project. On the contrary, the US administration is expected to hamper all efforts exerted to implement the agreement among the four Arab countries as along as it avoids giving them an official permission.
Lebanon is suffering from an unprecedented economic crisis caused mainly by the local corruption and the US blockade aimed at leading the country into drastic political changes in favor of the Zionist entity.
