The US is going ahead with its blockade on Lebanon which is already crippled by a harsh economic crisis. On Tuesday, Washington imposed sanctions on three Lebanese businessmen and their travel agency.
The Treasury Department added Adel Diab, Ali Mohamad Daoun, Jihad Salem Alame, and their company Dar Al-Salam for Travel & Tourism to its sanctions list over alleged ties to Hezbollah.
“Through businessmen like those designated today, Hezbollah gains access to material and financial support through the legitimate commercial sector to fund its acts of terrorism and attempts to destabilize Lebanon’s political institutions,” the Treasury claimed.
It said that the action requires all property owned by the three Lebanese nationals and their business that is in the United States to be blocked and reported to the department, and that all transactions related to the property by US citizens be prohibited.
Dar Al-Salam is a well-known Lebanese travel agency that organizes religious tours to Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran.
The US Treasury has been imposing sanctions on many figures on alleged ties to Hezbollah or even over corruption claims. However, such moves are widely seen as politicized and aimed against the Lebanese Resistance group and its local allies.
In recent remarks by Deputy Head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council Sheikh Ali Daamoush, he stressed that the Lebanese Resistance group, along with its loyal people, won’t abandon the path of freedom despite all forms of pressure Lebanon has being subjected to in the latest months.
