The Civil Court of Cassation on Monday dismissed a request filed by the two MPs Ali Hassan Khalil and Ghazi Zeaiter, who demanded Beirut port blast investigator, judge Tarek Bitar, be recused.
The Court considered that such procedure does not fall within its jurisdiction, and that it is only entitled to looking into the requests if the judge requested to be recused is member at the Court of Cassation or the State Prosecution of Cassation.
On August 4, 2020, a massive blast rocked Beirut Port blast, killing around 196 citizens and injuring over 6000 of others. The explosion also caused much destruction in the capital and its suburbs.
