The Lebanese parliament convened on Monday to discuss the ministerial policy statement and vote on granting confidence to the new government, after a nearly one-hour delay caused by a power cut.
Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, read out his cabinet’s ministerial statement based on which his government “Together to the Rescue” will gain a vote of confidence.
Most importantly, Mikati stressed the paramount importance of permanent and constructive cooperation with the House Parliament “to translate our common goals to save Lebanon, protect the Lebanese, and preserve their dignity.”
Later on, the members of the parliament started delivering their speeches which address the governmental statement in accordance with their demands and expectations.
Member of ‘Loyalty to Resistance’ bloc, MP Hasan Fadlallah underlined the importance of the concept of holding the government accountable when it fails to assume its responsibilities.
“Had the parliament held any of the former governments accountable, Lebanon would have been exporting power, fuel and basic commodities.”
Stressing that the forensic auditing includes all the public institutions, MP Fadlallah called on the government to cooperate with the Eastern and Western states and to conclude an agreement with the IMF in a way that secures the Lebanese interests.
