A fire broke out on Tuesday inside a ship at the ship maintenance zone at Tripoli’s Mina, National News Agency reported.
The agency said the fire erupted at a workshop owned by Masqawi family, which is specialized in ship maintenance, noting that this zone is located outside Tripoli Port’s main premises.
The official in charge of maintenance works confirmed that the fire was caused during a welding process that was carried out by maintenance workers inside a ship, affirming that the fire was slight and that the firefighting teams worked to extinguish it without any human losses.
For his part, Tripoli Port Director Ahmad Tamer denied to the NNA some reports which were circulated on social media.
“The truth is that the ship was anchored in the maintenance port when the fire broke out inside it, and this port is not affiliated to Tripoli port’s main administration,” Tamer said, stressing that the fire was very small and was immediately brought under control.
